23 april: Lezing “Axenitika and Misiotika. Two Cappadocian dialects still spoken in Greece”, Prof. Mark Janse (University of Cambridge)

On Wednesday 23 April, 18.00, the NIA has the pleasure of hosting a hybrid lecture by Prof. em. Mark Janse (Affiliated Researcher at the Faculty of Modern & Medieval Languages & Linguistics, University of Cambridge)

Axenitika and Misiotika. Two Cappadocian dialects still spoken in Greece

In his lecture, Prof. Janse will sketch among other things the amazing story of the rediscovery of the two dialects, the sociolinguistic profile of their speakers and the main similarities and differences between the two varieties against the background of the extremely archaic nature of Cappadocian and its closest relative, Pontic, the origins of which go back to the postclassical period.
