With great pleasure we share the program and invitation for the two-day event “RESILIENCE and RECONCILIATION. Democracy in Crisis and Repair across History” that will take place in Athens on the 28th and 29th of April 2026.
This international round table event, which will consist of 3 panel sessions, discusses how communities and institutions, ancient or modern, navigate crisis, uphold democratic forms, or abandon them altogether. The first session addresses conceptual dimensions, the second focuses on the themes in an ancient context, and the third presents historical and contemporary case studies.
Short information about the speakers can be found here.
Please note that the number of available seats is limited and that the event will be live-streamed.
You can register for the first day (session 1), that will be hosted at the Finnish Institute at Athens, through this link (both for physical attendance as for the live stream).
For the second day (sessions 2 and 3), that will take place at the Swedish Institute at Athens, please register through this link (both for physical attendance as for the live stream).
This event is the first of a series under the common title “Democracy under Pressure”, an initiative of the Netherlands Institute at Athens, in cooperation with the Danish Institute at Athens, the Finnish Institute at Athens, the Norwegian Institute at Athens and the Swedish Institute at Athens. Against the background of the ongoing and increasing discussions about the functioning, meaning and significance of Democracy, through this joint initiative the beforementioned Institutes want to offer a platform for substantial international academic debate in Athens, the city generally regarded as the “Cradle of Democracy”.
