Op 16 april 2018 vond op het NIA een symposium plaats ter gelegenheid van Eric Schliesser’s boek “Adam Smith, Systematic Philosopher and Public Thinker” (OUP, 2017). Doel van het symposium was om Smith’s pluralistische en multidisciplinaire benaderingswijze te benadrukken.

Tijdens het symposium werden diverse aspecten van Smith’s werk die in het boek aan de orde komen onderstreept, zoals epistemologie, wetenschapsgeschiedenis, economie, rechten, politieke theorie en methodologische vraagstukken in de geestes- en sociale wetenschappen.

Het eerste deel van het symposium bestond uit bijdragen van:

The symposium on the occasion of the book by Eric Schliesser, Adam Smith, Systematic Philosopher and Public Thinker (OUP, 2017) held at the Netherlands Institute at Athens on April 16, 2018 aimed at highlighting pluralism and interdisciplinary approach.

Emphasis has been placed on different aspects of the book, epistemology, the history of science, economics, law, political theory, methodological issues in the humanities and social sciences, always with reference to Adam Smith’s work.

In this way, the iconoclastic dimensions of an original work were critically developed through equally original rhetorical and conceptual attempts to evaluate it.
