Online: opnames “Testimonies and Research on Hiding during the Holocaust” (20/10/2021)

We are happy to inform you that we published the recordings of the successful event on “Testimonies and Research on Hiding during the Holocaust” on our YouTube-channel.

The international event took place on Wednesday 20 October and brought together survivors of the Holocaust, their offspring, academic experts and artists working on and with the memory of those who survived the Holocaust in hiding.
The meeting presented testimonies on hiding in Greece and the Netherlands; engaged with the narratives of first- and second-generation survivors; and it addressed methodological and research desiderata like: How and when are memories of hiding (and other survival strategies) processed into narratives? How are these narratives transferred from generation to generation? What is the role of the narratives inside and outside the community of memory, for instance in relation to the rest of an artist’s oeuvre?

The meeting served as an preamble to an international, hybrid workshop on “Jewish Responses to Persecution and Rescue Efforts during the Holocaust”, which is planned for 10-11 May 2022.  Both the workshop as the preparatory meeting were organised by the NIA in cooperation with the Research Institute for Culture, Cognition, History and Heritage of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and the Workshop on the Study of the Jews of Greece.
