Library

The library of the NIA contains approximately 8,000 books and periodicals. The NIA originated as a classical archaeological institute, and antiquity is the main focus of our library. Donations and bequests from Dutch antiquarians (Prof. Sancisi-Weerdenburg, Prof. De Waele, Prof. J.M. Hemelrijk, Drs Van Akkeren), the publisher Han Gieben and a donation of duplicates from the University of Amsterdam have resulted in a rich and varied collection of books.
In 2018, Professor Trojanos thought of us with the donation of his library in the field of Byzantine law and Byzantine history. His collaboration with legal history in Groningen had led him to donate the core of his library, about 1400 books, to our institute. The library, which had already been expanded in the Mannekenszaal in 2016, was enlarged in this room especially for this purpose. In the course of 2019-2020, this library part will be made available in the digital catalog.

The catalogue, which can be consulted online, has been maintained by Maria Kourevesi since 2015.
